# What is SERVAL?

[SERVAL](http://serval.unil.ch) (SERveur Académique Lausannois) is our institutional repository. Using SERVAL has [many benefits](https://www.unil.ch/openscience/en/home/menuinst/open-access/open-access-a-lunil/soutien-360/voie-verte/serval.html "SERVAL").

SERVAL is a great tool for securely storing your scientific publications and a platform to render them open by following the [Green Road](http://www.unil.ch/openscience/en/home/menuinst/open-access/how-to-publish-in-open-access.html "How to publish in Open Access"). Depositing in SERVAL is compliant with virtually all Open Access mandates.

The aim of SERVAL is twofold:
