Research - Introduction to Linux (commands and tools) for HPC

Objectives of this course

 

Target audience

Any PhD students, post-docs, researchers of UNIL and CHUV who need to use UNIL HPC clusters, and as a consequence to work on a Linux system with a command-line interface.

Content

At the end of the course, the participants are expected to understand:

  • the use of the filesystem (move between directories, edit/copy/files files, set specific permissions to files and directories)
  • the use of simple tools to handle data
  • the process management on Linux
  • the concept of I/O redirections and pipes
  • the basis of SSH to perform remote connection/copy
  • the basis of bash scripting
  • the creation/use of compressed archive
