FBM IT Management Plan (PFBM)

History

The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) is located in several different places between the Dorigny campus, downtown Lausanne (Bugnon district), and Epalinges. For units and departments located off the main campus, the need for local IT support that could not be provided by UNIL Central IT Services led to the creation of the FBM IT Service (Si) in 2008.

Description and objectives

The FBM IT Service brings together local IT managers from the Departments located in the Bugnon and Epalinges districts. It is organized on the basis of resource pooling, information exchange, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of standards in IT management.

This collaboration has resulted in the FBM IT Management Plan, which aims to consolidate and coordinate the IT activities of our Faculty and to offer a membership and support agreement for each department wishing to adhere to these principles and this work organization.

More broadly, the missions of the FBM IT Management Plan are as follows:

  • Provision of a common IT infrastructure (based on the resources of the UNIL IT Central Services);
  • Standardized management of institutional IT equipment;
  • Development of common basic rules of use, which can be extended by unit and adapted to individual needs;
  • Encouragement of dialogue between the various IT teams (knowledge sharing and problem solving) and coordination between them;
  • Solving users' IT problems.
