FBM IT Management Plan (PFBM)

Version française

History

The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) is spread over different locations : the Dorigny campus, downtown Lausanne (Bugnon district), and Epalinges. A need for local IT support that could not be provided by UNIL Central IT Services to units and departments located off the main campus led to the creation of the FBM IT Service (Si) in 2008.

Description and objectives

The FBM IT Service brings together local IT managers from the Departments located at the Bugnon and the Epalinges districts. Its functionning is based on resource pooling, information exchange, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of standards in IT management.

The FBM IT Management Plan is the result of this collaboration. The goal is to consolidate and coordinate the IT activities of our Faculty and to offer a membership and support agreement to each department willing to adhere to these principles and this work organisation.

More broadly, the missions of the FBM IT Management Plan are the following:

  • Provide a common IT infrastructure (based on the resources of the UNIL IT Central Services)
  • Standardise the management of institutional IT equipment
  • Develop common basic rules of usage, which can be extended by unit and tailored to individual needs
  • Encourage dialogue between the various IT teams (knowledge sharing and problem solving) and coordination between them
  • Solving users' IT problems
