Hardware management, purchase and repair

Institutional IT equipment

Institutional IT purchasing

All IT purchases (software or hardware, including scientific devices connected to a computer), regardless of their source of funding at UNIL, must be approved by the FBM IT Service (Si). If you wish to purchase new IT equipment (hardware or software), you can send your request by email to supportfbm@unil.ch, specifying your requirements (model, configuration, use, etc.), or contact the local IT manager of your department. We will take care of the entire purchasing process, from the order form to delivery to your workplace of equipment installed and configured to FBM standards.

You can find more information on the Central Purchasing Office's web pages (restricted access).

Use of a private computer during your UNIL collaborations

When the unit you work for cannot provide you with the appropriate equipment to carry out your activities at UNIL, you can request that your personal computer be added to the UNIL inventory. This service, which is administered by the FBM IT Service, is subject to internal conditions and rules defined by the Central Purchasing Office.

Teleworking: Loan of a screen

Under internal directive 1.40 on flexible and mobile working arrangements at UNIL, employees can borrow a screen for teleworking. Information and equipment loans are available from the Central Purchasing Office: Teleworking: loan of a screen.

Repairs

In the event of a hardware problem (UNIL machines only), you can bring your computer to FBM IT support, who will send it for repair to our partner technicians (Darest and ART Computer). Please note that repair times may be extended due to administrative procedures (forms and estimates), the nature of the problem, or technician availability.

FBM IT support will provide you with a loaner computer while your computer is being repaired. To request a loaner, please consult our loaner catalog.

Private IT equipment

Non-professional IT purchases

UNIL members can take advantage of a range of discounts from a number of UNIL partners for all IT purchases for personal use (hardware and software): summary of offers for private computer purchases.

The Neptun offer is available twice a year at the beginning of the semester and entitles you to a discount of between 16-18%. The Poseidon offer is available all year round, except during the Neptun purchase window, and entitles you to a 12-13% discount. Please note that you cannot purchase institutional or laboratory equipment via Neptun and Poseidon. Private purchases are not supported by FBM IT support, but we are happy to advise you on your product choices.

For more information, please refer to the Central IT Services (Ci)'s documentation.
