Backup and online storage

Version française

General principle

All data produced in a professional context must be stored on the central storage space or NAS server. This infrastructure ensures the security and durability of your data. Data stored locally on your machines is not backed up.

To protect your valuable work data stored locally on your UNIL workstation, UNIL's Central IT Service offers an application : Comet Backup. This software allows you to select the folders and files to be included in an automatic backup every three hours and to restore previous versions in the event of a problem, without the need for IT support. This service is available to all staff members with a UNIL contract (PAT and academic). To install Comet Backup on your computer, please contact the FBM IT Support

Online storage

The Office 365 subscription available to UNIL employees provides them with 100 GB of storage on OneDrive. Encrypted with UNIL's Central IT Service encryption keys, the data is hosted in the Microsoft Cloud in Switzerland. In addition, thanks to the Office Online suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files hosted on OneDrive can also be edited directly online and shared with people inside and outside UNIL.

Please note that it is prohibited to use OneDrive to store research data.
