Backup and online storage

General principle

All data produced in a professional context must be stored on the central storage space or NAS server. This infrastructure ensures the security and durability of your data. Data stored locally on work machines is not backed up.

Backup

Comet Backup is an application provided by the UNIL Central IT Services (Ci) that allows users to back up their profiles on their UNIL computers. This software allows users to choose which documents to back up and to recover data in case of a problem, without the assistance of IT support. This service is available to all employees with a UNIL contract (PAT and academic). To install Comet Backup on your computer, please contact FBM IT Support.

Online storage

The Office 365 subscription available to UNIL employees provides them with 100 GB of storage on OneDrive. Encrypted with UNIL Central IT Services encryption keys, the data is hosted in the Microsoft Cloud in Switzerland. In addition, thanks to the Office Online suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files hosted on OneDrive can also be edited directly online and shared with people inside and outside UNIL.

Please note that it is prohibited to use OneDrive to store research data.
